Internet Marketing Online – Five Dimensions Of Win/Win

Posted by admin on Jan 28, 2010

Win/Win is a frame of mind that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human relations. It is based on the paradigm that there is plenty for everyone, and that one person’s success is not achieved at the expense of others.

This is the habit of interpersonal leadership. The basic task of leadership is to increase the standard of living and the quality of life for everyone involved. This is the goal of my Internet Income Opportunity and why I started in Direct Sales Marketing.

It all begins with our character and moves toward relationships. Agreements between parties are the results of these relationships. Win/Win must be the basis for all structure and systems. And lastly, it involves process; we cannot achieve Win/Win ends with Win/Lose or Lose/Win means.

Let’s have a look at the first three of these dimensions.

Character

Character is the foundation of Win/Win, and everything else builds on this foundation. There are three character traits that are essential to the Win/Win paradigm.

Integrity is defined as the value we place on ourselves. It is the cornerstone of the foundation. Integrity is conforming reality to our words, keeping promises and fulfilling expectations.

Maturity is the balance between courage and consideration. Another definition is the ability to express one’s own feelings and convictions balanced with consideration for the thoughts and feelings of others.

Abundance Mentality is the paradigm that there is plenty for everyone and therefore competition is not necessary.

Relationships

Win/Win relationships grow from the foundation of character. Trust is essential if Win/Win is to be achieved. Relationships must focus on the issues, not on personalities or positions.

We need to approach Win/Win from a genuine desire to invest in the relationships that make it all possible.

Agreements

It is from relationships that agreements are formed.

The Win/Win agreement has five elements that must be clear, mutually understood and agreed upon upfront:
- Desired results identify what is to be done and when.
- Guidelines specify the parameters within which results are to be accomplished.
- Resources identify the support available to help accomplish the results.
- Accountability sets up the standard of performance and the time of evaluation.
- Consequences specify what will happen as a result of the evaluation.

If the trust account is high, we can let them do things their own way and trust that it will meet all these predetermined elements.

I’ll touch on the remaining dimensions tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Online Home Business – Think Win/Win

Posted by admin on Jan 27, 2010

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been discussing the habits of Private Victory.  Now we’ll move on and look at the habits of Public Victory.

Let’s get started on Habit 4 – Think Win/Win

Many problems faced by people in relationships are the result of a flawed paradigm.

Like the manager who wants cooperation among his staff, but implements a bonus plan that encourages competition.  There is disharmony between the plan and the action.

Effective leaders internalize the habit of Win/Win.  This is the best approach in a family situation, an Internet Income Opportunity, and Direct Sales Marketing.

Win/Win is only one of six paradigms of human interaction.  Let’s take a closer look at the other five.

Win/Lose is simply “I win, you lose” mentality.  This is an authoritarian approach often used by those in power.  This is also the approach used in many sporting events.

Lose/Win is the reverse, “I lose, you win.”  This is often the approach used by people who are quick to please, avoiding confrontation at all costs.

Lose/Lose is often the result of two Win/Lose people getting together.  Both parties are trying so hard to be the winner that both parties end up losing.

Win is the mentality of someone who wants to win no matter what.  They don’t necessarily want someone else to lose, it is merely important that they get what they want.

Win/Win or No Deal is the last of the five alternatives to Win/Win.  If a solution cannot be found that will benefit both parties, they agreed that there will be no deal at all.  This is an option that works best at the beginning of a potential relationship.

I’ve saved Win/Win for last so we can end today’s discussion where we want our relationships to reside.  This approach is all about finding a solution that is mutually beneficial to everyone.  The assumption is that there is plenty for everyone, so competition is not necessary.  One person or group does not win at the expense of others.

There are times when Win/Win is not the objective.

Sporting events often use the Win/Lose approach because one clear winner is the desired outcome.

Win/Lose can be used to stimulate business; a friendly competition between local businesses for example.

Lose/Win is often used where one party is indifferent to the outcome; maybe it just isn’t worth the effort.

The best choice will depend on the reality of the situation.

Win/Win is the only real alternative in interdependent relationships, and Lose/Lose isn’t viable in any context.

Home Internet Business – The Emotional Bank Account

Posted by admin on Jan 26, 2010

This is a metaphor put forth by Stephen Covey in The Seven Habits. It describes the amount of trust that’s been built up in a relationship. We make deposits into an Emotional Bank Account through courtesy, kindness, honesty, and keeping commitments. In this way we build up a reserve.

A high level of trust makes communication easier and more effective. You will find that trust is the basis of a successful Internet Income Opportunity and Direct Sales Marketing.

We make withdrawals from this Emotional Bank Account through discourtesy, unkindness, dishonesty, and betraying trust, to name a few.

It takes constant deposits to maintain a high level of trust in our Emotional Bank Account.

There are six ways to make deposits to our Emotional Bank Accounts:

- Understanding others, learning what they want, what they consider to be a deposit, what is important to them. This is not about what is important to us.
- Attending to the little things constitutes a major deposit.
- Keeping commitments and promises make great deposits while breaking promises is a major withdrawal.
- Clarifying expectations is extremely important. This helps to avoid misunderstandings and disappointment, which lead to withdrawals. Never assume that everyone has the same expectations if they have not been discussed openly.
- Showing personal integrity generates trust. Covey offers excellent definitions of integrity and honesty that highlight the difference between the two.
o Honesty is telling the truth, conforming our words to reality.
o Integrity is conforming reality to our words.
- Apologizing sincerely when you make a withdrawal. Repeated apologizes may be seen as insincere, and therefore constitute a withdrawal.

One of the most important ways to manifest integrity is to be loyal to those who are not present. This is an indicator to all who are present that they will be treated similarly when they are not present, and trust is established.

Tomorrow, we’ll get started on Habit 4 – Think Win/Win.

Marketing And Direct Sales – Introduction To Interdependence

Posted by admin on Jan 25, 2010

Here’s a quick recap of what we’ve been discussing the last few weeks.

Our objective is to become effective.

We’ve discussed what paradigms and principles are in relation to our efforts to become effective.

The first three habits are all about private victory: becoming proactive; beginning with the end in mind; putting first things first. These are things we do on a personal level. These things move us from dependence to independence.

The next three habits are all about public victory, things we do in relation to others. These are the things that move us from independence to interdependence.

Before we move on to the fourth habit, let’s talk a bit about interdependence.

Remember that effective interdependence can only be built on a foundation of true independence. Private Victory precedes Public Victory.

This change can be very dramatic for some people, a whole new way of thinking.

It has been said that we must like ourselves before we can like others. I believe this to be true. But before we can like ourselves, we must know ourselves. This is what the first three habits are all about, getting to know who we are, what we’re all about.

Independence is an achievement resulting from internalizing the first three habits.

Interdependence is a choice only independent people can make. It’s all about relationships. This is the ideal place to be in an Internet Income Opportunity and Direct Sales Marketing.

We may say and do things, but are they really in alignment with what we believe at our core? This is what sets the effective person apart from those who are not. Effective people live in a manner that is in harmony with their inner core, as their actions and behaviors are based on unchanging principles.

We talked about The Seven Habits as working from the inside-out. This is crucial when we start to build relationships. We must be clear on what’s inside of us, before we can move to the outside, dealing with others.

Tomorrow we’ll talk about levels of trust in relationships. How we can build trust, and how we unwittingly destroy it.

Online Business – Delegation Is Key

Posted by admin on Jan 22, 2010

People are more important than things, well at least they should be if we’re to be proactive and effective in Direct Sales Marketing.  And the first person we need to consider in terms of effectiveness is ourselves.

If we’ve been following along, and we’ve internalized the first three habits, we’re principle-centered, conscience-directed, we have a unique mission (including values and goals), we have a balanced life, and we now organize on a weekly basis.

As self-managed leaders, our primary focus is on relationships and results rather than time management.  This is crucial in an Internet Income Opportunity.

We talked earlier about effective people spending their time on only those things that are important.  This is where delegation comes in, and is possibly the single most powerful activity there is.

Delegation results in growth for both parties involved.  It frees up time to work on the important things, and it increases the knowledge and skills of the delegate.

It is delegation that makes us true managers, and not meerly glorified producers. This is the key to effective management.

There are two kinds of delegation.

The first is simply directing, step-by-step: go for this; do that, etc.  This is how a producer delegates.  One cannot manage more than a few people using this method, due to the time required.

An effective manager will delegate in a stewardship fashion, where the focus is on results rather than the method used to get the results.

In order for stewardship delegation to work, the desired results must be clearly understood by both parties.  There should be as few guidelines as possible, making sure to point out any restrictions or known pitfalls.  Make sure the delegate, or steward knows what resources are available for their use, and be clear about the consequences of any results produced, good or bad.

So much more can be accomplished through this interdependent relationship than could possibly have been accomplished by either party on their own.

Trust between the parties is essential as the steward should be his/her own boss, governed by conscience and commitment.

This ends our discussion of Habit 3 – Begin With The End In Mind.

Direct Marketing – Working Within The Matrix

Posted by admin on Jan 21, 2010

We’ve determined that our Internet Income Opportunity will benefit most if we work in Quadrant 2, on matters that are important (to our goals), but not urgent.

In the past, people have treated time management as simply a list of things to be done, but no emphasis was placed on priority. This can be deadly in Direct Sales Marketing.

Also, there was no consideration given to our values and principles when creating our list.

Over time, we learned to incorporate our principles and values into our daily planning, but we were still focused on the urgent matters, to the exclusion of the important matters.

The current trend is to be proactive, more effective. To do this effectively, we must consider six important criteria:

Coherence, harmony between our goals and our plans.
Balance, being sure to give attention to all our roles in life, not just one or two.
Focus on importance, best done through weekly, rather than daily, planning.
A people dimension, thinking in terms of effectiveness in dealing with people, rather than efficiency.
Flexibility, to change our plans if necessary.
Portability, a tool we can take with us most of the time.

In our attempt to be an effective self-manager, we must include four key activities in our organizing: identify our roles; select our goals; schedule our activities; adapt our plans daily.

Please join me tomorrow as we wrap up the third habit … Put First Things First.

Business Opportunity Online – Meet The Matrix

Posted by admin on Jan 20, 2010

The Time Management Matrix will help us schedule our Internet Income Opportunity activities.

There are two factors that define any activity: urgent (requiring immediate attention) and important (necessary to achieving results).

Urgent matters require immediate attention, but are not always important to achieving our goals.

The problem that most of us face is that important matters are often not urgent, and therefore get put on the back burner until we have time for them, and this time often never materializes.

We must make a conscience effort to make the time for these important, not urgent, matters. Our Direct Sales Marketing efforts will be greatly enhanced by these activities.

Time management can be categorized into four quadrants:

Quadrant 1 items are urgent and important

Quadrant 2 items are important but not urgent

Quadrant 3 items are urgent but not important

Quadrant 4 items are neither urgent nor important

Quadrant 1 items often consume us. People who work in this quadrant are crisis managers. Proactive people spend as little time here as possible.

Remember, what we focus on only gets bigger, and this is an area we do not want to enlarge.

As our goal is to become proactive, we should strive to spend our time and energy in Quadrant 2, where matters are important but not urgent. These are the activities that maintain our production capacity, help prevent things from moving into crisis mode (Quadrant 1), and allow us to do the planning for our goals, etc.

Effective people stay out of Quadrants 3 and 4. These items can be delegated if urgent, and a lot of them are just a waste of time.

Quadrant 2 is the heart of effective personal management. Here we concentrate on relationships and results rather than time and methods.

We’ve all heard of the Pareto Principle – 80 percent of the results flow out of 20 percent of the activities.

To find the time for important Quadrant 2 priorities, we have to learn to say “no” to other activities, sometimes urgent things.

Most people feel that their main fault is a lack of discipline, but this may not be the case. Perhaps it is that they have not fully accepted and implemented Habit 2.

They’re working on the attitudes and the behaviors of discipline, without examining the basic paradigms from which their natural attitudes and behaviors flow.

If our priorities are principle-centered, we will see Quadrant 2 as a natural, exciting place to invest our time.

Tomorrow we’ll talk about how we move into Quadrant 2 and the tools available to assist us.

Internet Opportunity – The Evolution Of Time Management

Posted by admin on Jan 19, 2010

Time management is one of the most important elements of an Internet Income Opportunity.  There are so many distractions on the Internet that we can spend the entire day surfing and accomplish nothing.

Time management has mostly consisted of organizing our day, and working everything around priorities.  This has involved such tools as notes, checklists, calendars, and appointment books.

The current trend is to focus on goal setting, working in harmony with our values, and daily planning. This is extremely helpful for our Direct Sales Marketing.

The problem with such time management is that it leaves no room for spontaneity.  We often schedule so many things to be done in a single day that we are lucky just to get through the list.  Our lives are so structured we start to feel like machines, following along step-by-step, until our daily schedule is complete or we run out of time.

The actual term “Time Management” is very misleading.  We cannot manage time, we can only manage ourselves and our use of the time we have.

A while back we discussed the concept of Product / Production Capacity Balance.  Remember the fable about the goose and the golden egg?  If we don’t take care of the goose (production capacity), we will eventually stop getting the golden eggs (product).

Remember, we are the production capacity, and must be taken care of if we are to continue producing and being successful.

Tomorrow, we’ll move on to the Time Management Matrix.  This will help us to see where we spend our time, and where we should want to spend our time.

Online Business Opportunity – Principles Of Personal Management

Posted by admin on Jan 18, 2010

We’ve talked extensively about the first two of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey.

Here’s a very brief recap:
Habit 1 says, “You are the creator.” It’s based on imagination, conscience, independent will, and self-awareness.

Habit 2 is the first or mental creation (planning), based on imagination and conscience.

Let’s move on now to the third habit – Put First Things First.

Habit 3 is the second or physical creation (doing). The exercise of independent will toward becoming principle-centered.

Ask yourself this: what one thing could you do (that you aren’t doing now), that if you did on a regular basis, would make a tremendous positive difference in (a) your personal life and (b) your professional life?

These are the questions we must ask ourselves in an Internet Income Opportunity. The answers will help us progress through the Seven Habits and become more effective in our Direct Sales Marketing.

It is essential that we accomplish Habits 1 and 2 before we can hope to achieve Habit 3. You can’t become principle-centered without first being aware of and developing your own proactivity.

Habit 3 is all about effective self-management. This will determine the quality and even the existence of the second creation. This is where a lot of people fail, as they do not take action.

Remember our discussion about left and right brains? Well, we manage from the left brain, lead from the right.

The Power Of Independent Will

It is independent will that makes effective self-management possible. It is the ability to make decisions and choices and to act on them.

It is crucial to our success that we use our independent will daily in our decision making.

Integrity is our ability to make and keep commitments to ourselves. This requires discipline (derived from the word disciple).

If you are an effective manager of self, your discipline comes from within; it is a function of your independent will.

Internet Income Opportunity – Identify Your Roles

Posted by admin on Jan 15, 2010

This is the final installment of Habit #2 – Begin With The End In Mind.

In our efforts to become proactive we often think too narrowly. We may concentrate our efforts on one area of our life, to the exclusion of other areas. This is also true in Direct Sales Marketing. There are many ways to market, and we should not concentrate on one single method to the exclusion of all others.

To avoid this problem, our first step should be to identify our roles in life. Once we determine these roles, we want to identify two or three important results that we want to accomplish for each role.

Remember to review this list of roles frequently to be sure we are working on all areas of our life, not just one or two.

Writing things down helps to clarify our thoughts and helps break things into manageable pieces. It’s no different in an Internet Income Opportunity. A clear vision of where we are, where we’re going, and what our objectives are is very important.

This is where a written mission statement is useful.

Mission statements are not just for individuals. They apply to families and organizations as well.

Families are often managed in reaction to crises and not based on sound principles.

The problem with this is that when a situation arises we tend to react critically or start yelling, overreacting. Children grow up thinking the only way to solve problems is to fight or flee.

A written mission statement can help the family to work as a unit, based on mutually agreed upon principles. This sets a foundation for the family unit, giving it direction.

The actual process of writing the mission statement is a key way to improve the family itself. Regular review of the written statement will keep the family on track and working together.

Organizations are very similar to the family unit in that all people involved should participate in the creation of the mission statement, not just upper management, or parents in the case of the family unit. Without involvement, there is no commitment.

This gives the statement meaning for everyone, and people are more likely to work with the mission statement as they have taken ownership of it.

Again, the process is just as important as the product.
