Online Marketing Business – Do Follow

Posted by admin on Mar 17, 2010

If you’ve been doing any research on link building, then you’ve probably seen the terms nofollow and dofollow. These are very important terms to understand when you’re trying to build great links back to your site in order to increase your search engine rankings.

DoFollow doesn’t technically exist; instead, it is the absence of the nofollow tag in a link. Links with nofollow do not count as backlinks to Google and other search engines, so you don’t get the search engine ranking benefit.

Almost all blog platforms by default are set up to nofollow so that whenever there is a link in a comment the search engines will not “count” the link as they are crawling the Internet. This was originally designed to help stop comment spam, but it doesn’t work. What it does is remove some of the incentive for your readers to contribute to your site by commenting on your posts.

What can you do about it? Turn off nofollow. Show your commenters that you appreciate them. Spread the link love.  (Be sure to turn on spam filters like Akismet and WPSpamFree.)

So, when you’re looking for sites and blogs to leave your link, figure out if the links you’re aiming for use nofollow or not. A good way to do this is to view the source code, or find some good dofollow lists such as Courtney Tuttle’s D-list.

Another great place to find dofollow blogs is at DoFollow Blogs Search Engine, DoFollow Diver!

Thanks for the info. I recently wasted $50 at boostability.com for some lame link building tools. I didn’t see any boost in sites linking to my site after hours and hours of mind numbing work. So I did some Googling, which is free, and found that the “nofollow” attribute will keep these links from showing up to give authority. So now I do everything on my own by using Google to find these sites. Thanks for your information. WordPress by default uses nofollow, so to fix this you can use the plugin at http://www.semiologic.com/software/dofollow/. And there is also a Firefox addon called NoDoFollow that will highlight good links blue and bad ones red, that way you know where to spend your time. Thanks for the post!

It’s can be a major pain to comb through the HTML source code of a website to see if it uses nofollow or not.

Luckily there is a Firefox extension for this:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5687

This extension makes it really easy to see which links are follow and which ones are nofollow. It will turn all the links that are nofollow to a pink color and all other links to a purple color on a webpage.

This is something everyone who is buying or trading links should be well aware of. Many times it looks like you are getting a quality link back, but in reality the link is not followed and almost useless.

There is also the quirk SEO Seach Status Firefox plugin that marks which links are nofollow and which are not, some other SEO plugins do this as well like SEO Quake for example. Cheers

firstly, joining the dofollow movement is great. you will probably see an increase in conversations, but you will receive a lot o junk comments too. as you’ve mentioned, you have to turn on akismet or other spam plugins to do their job.
secondly, it would be much nicer to actually sign your articles with a proper name, and not admin :)

Great Information – I agree with Adam regarding the buying of links, it is always better to do your own link building, it may be slower, but it is more targeted, after all linking to a Health and Beauty site if you are in the Gardening Niche would be a waste of time. Also there are plenty of softwares available that will tell you where to look for quality dofollow links!

Just to add to what Adam mentioned. I also use Comment Luv, U Comment I Follow, and Keyword Luv for backlinks. And if you are contributing genuinely to a blog with a post that helps others or ads value, it usually works very well.

I personally use the firefox plug-in to find dofollow blogs. It’s so simple. It takes just a few seconds to download.
By the way, do these spam plug-ins really work?

Spam plug-ins definitely work. I use WP-SpamFree.

To check whether a link is no follow or do follow every browser has supporting plugins that stops you to peep into HTML code. For FireFox install Search Status and right click on the web page. A pop menu will appear. Select no follow option from there. If comment links show purple color, links will be do follow and if colors become pink, links will be no follow
