Internet Income Opportunity – Identify Your Roles
Posted by admin on Jan 15, 2010
This is the final installment of Habit #2 – Begin With The End In Mind.
In our efforts to become proactive we often think too narrowly. We may concentrate our efforts on one area of our life, to the exclusion of other areas. This is also true in Direct Sales Marketing. There are many ways to market, and we should not concentrate on one single method to the exclusion of all others.
To avoid this problem, our first step should be to identify our roles in life. Once we determine these roles, we want to identify two or three important results that we want to accomplish for each role.
Remember to review this list of roles frequently to be sure we are working on all areas of our life, not just one or two.
Writing things down helps to clarify our thoughts and helps break things into manageable pieces. It’s no different in an Internet Income Opportunity. A clear vision of where we are, where we’re going, and what our objectives are is very important.
This is where a written mission statement is useful.
Mission statements are not just for individuals. They apply to families and organizations as well.
Families are often managed in reaction to crises and not based on sound principles.
The problem with this is that when a situation arises we tend to react critically or start yelling, overreacting. Children grow up thinking the only way to solve problems is to fight or flee.
A written mission statement can help the family to work as a unit, based on mutually agreed upon principles. This sets a foundation for the family unit, giving it direction.
The actual process of writing the mission statement is a key way to improve the family itself. Regular review of the written statement will keep the family on track and working together.
Organizations are very similar to the family unit in that all people involved should participate in the creation of the mission statement, not just upper management, or parents in the case of the family unit. Without involvement, there is no commitment.
This gives the statement meaning for everyone, and people are more likely to work with the mission statement as they have taken ownership of it.
Again, the process is just as important as the product.

Direct Sales Marketing – Which Brain Do You Use?
Posted by admin on Jan 14, 2010
We’ve all heard the terms left-brain and right-brain.
Imagination and conscience are what enable us to practice the second habit – Begin With The End In Mind. These attributes are primarily functions of the right side of the brain.
Even though we use both sides of our brain, there is usually one side that is dominant over the other.
It might interest you to know that most people are left-brained, and this is one of the reasons that a lot of people have difficulty with visualization.
The quality of our first creation (the planning) is significantly impacted by our ability to use our creative right brain.
Traumatic events in our lives can force us to use our right brain: the death of someone close or a serious illness.
It is during these times of crisis that we often ask ourselves what’s really important, why we’re doing what we’re doing.
Proactive people don’t wait for these tragic events to ask these types of questions, they do it constantly. When in Direct Sales Marketing and an Internet Income Opportunity we must be proactive, and therefore we ask ourselves these soul-searching questions regularly.
Visualization and affirmation can help us immensely in our efforts to become proactive.
When visualizing, we want to involve our emotions, feelings, as many of our senses as possible.
Affirmations can be written to help us align our attitudes and behaviors with our values.
Good affirmations are personal, positive, in the present tense, visual, and emotional.
If we use affirmations and visualization daily, we will see our behaviors change to align with our goals.
Be careful when visualizing. If we visualize the wrong things, we will produce the wrong things.
Take a good look at the top athletes today. Most of them visualize regularly. They see themselves performing their sport in great detail, successfully of course.
Done correctly, visualization allows us to see things that have not happened yet. We can work out the best approach by replaying and updating our visions until we get them right.
If we are visualizing solutions to a difficult situation we will be prepared when the event actually takes place. We will be more comfortable under the circumstances as we have lived it through many times.

Internet Income Opportunity – What Is Principle-Centering?
Posted by admin on Jan 13, 2010
If we center our lives on correct principles we create a solid foundation for the development of the four life-support factors of security, guidance, wisdom, and power.
Let’s have a closer look at each of these factors.
Security – correct principles do not change, and therefore we can depend on them.
Principles are deep, fundamental, classic truths. They are bigger than people or circumstances.
Guidance and wisdom, generated from principle-centered living, comes from the way things really are, have always been, and always will be. Remember, correct principles don’t change.
Power that comes from principle-centered living is proactive; unaffected by the actions of others, circumstances or environmental influences.
Principles have natural consequences: positive consequences when we live in harmony with the principles; negative consequences when we ignore them.
By centering our lives on unchanging principles, we create a fundamental paradigm of effective living. Success in Direct Sales Marketing and an Internet Income Opportunity will be greatly affected by the center we choose to live our life by.
Remember, our paradigm is the source of our attitudes and behaviors.
If a center does not empower proactively, we must make the necessary paradigm shifts to create a center that will.
Principle-Centered people try to come up with the best solution, taking all factors into consideration. They are proactively choosing what they believe to be the best alternative among those available.
If we have a high degree of security, guidance, wisdom, and power that flows from a solid, unchanging core, we have the foundation of a highly proactive and highly effective life.
A mission statement is not something to be written in one sitting. We should take our time to write it, review it regularly and make minor changes over the years as circumstance change, or we learn new things about our life and our values.
The process is as important as the product.

Direct Sales Marketing – What Is Your Center?
Posted by admin on Jan 12, 2010
We’ve been talking about Habit 2 – Begin With The End In Mind – and Mission Statements, so let’s continue.
To write an effective mission statement, we first need to determine our center, the very heart of our Center of Influence. Remember, the more we work with our Circle of Influence, the more it expands, and this should be our goal.
Our center is the source of our security, guidance, wisdom, and power. These four factors are interdependent: security and clear guidance bring true wisdom, and wisdom becomes the spark to direct our power.
The stronger these four elements are, the more control we have.
There are many centers. We often don’t recognize our own center, and most people do not see that this center is at the heart of all things in our lives. Your center will have a huge influence on the way you operate your Internet Income Opportunity.
Here is a short list of the most common centers. We are often a combination of many centers, but there will be one that is dominant. See if you can determine your center.
Spouse centeredness
Family centeredness
Money centeredness
Work centeredness
Possession centeredness
Pleasure centeredness
Friend centeredness
Enemy centeredness
Church centeredness
Self-centeredness
For each of these centers consider the four factors of security, guidance, wisdom, and power. How do these factors manifest themselves in each center? What center is best if you work in Direct Sales Marketing?
If we look at the people around us we can sometimes determine what their center is, based on their behaviors.
The ideal is to create one clear center from which you consistently derive a high degree of security, guidance, wisdom, and power. This will enable your proactivity and give congruency and harmony to every part of your life.
Tomorrow we’ll continue with this discussion, and look at an alternative to the centers discussed above.

Internet Income Opportunity – Leadership vs Management
Posted by admin on Jan 11, 2010
We spoke last time about there being two creations to all things. Let’s continue.
Leadership is the first creation (thinking and planning); management is the second creation (actions). In Direct Sales Marketing, we must do both.
Management is doing things right, leadership is doing the right thing.
Here’s a great example from The Seven Habits that will clarify this for us:
* Producers cut their way through the jungle.
* Managers sharpen their machetes.
* Leaders are the ones who climb the tallest trees, survey the entire situation, and yell, “Wrong jungle!”
Effectiveness does not depend solely on how much effort we put forth, but on whether or not the effort we expend is on the right things. This applies to all things including an Internet Income Opportunity.
No management success can compensate for a failure in leadership.
Our goal should always be to become our own first creator, the planner.
We all have potential for what are referred to as human endowments: self-awareness; imagination; conscience. These assist us to expand our proactivity and to exercise personal leadership in our lives.
Real success is success with self.
Because of these human endowments we can examine our deepest values to determine if we are living in harmony with these values. If not, we can change and become our own first creator.
To begin with the end in mind is to approach any role in our life with our values, and then our direction is clear. We should begin every day by reviewing these values so we are prepared, to act from these values, with integrity, for whatever challenges come our way throughout the day.
A personal mission statement can be very helpful. It focuses on our character, contributions and achievements, and on the values we want to base our lives on.
A mission statement should be fundamentally changeless. We may change our goals, change our path to our goals, but our sense of who we are, what we are about, what we value is essentially unchanged.
This documents the vision we have of our life, and our direction.

Begin With The End In Mind
Posted by admin on Jan 8, 2010
Imagine for a minute that you are at a funeral, your own (make some notes if you can).
There are to be four speakers: family member; friend; coworker; and fellow social group leader.
What would you like each of these speakers to say about you and your life? What kind of person would you like their words to reflect? What character would you like them to have seen in you? What contributions, what achievements would you want them to remember?
Look carefully at the people around you. What difference would you like to have made in their lives?
Keep these images and thoughts in mind as we move forward. This will be your frame of reference.
The purpose of this exercise is to work backward from the end, to determine what needs to be done to get us there. Direct Sales Marketing should be treated in the same way if we want success.
The last thing anyone wants is to reach the end of their life, and find that they have regrets, that they’ve wasted their time and efforts on things that didn’t really matter, to the detriment of the things that did matter. At this point, it is too late to do anything about it.
If we start now, and begin with the end in mind, we should have no regrets.
“Begin with the end in mind” is based on the principle that all things are created twice. There’s a mental or first creation, and a physical or second creation to all things.
There are examples of this everywhere we look: building a house, starting an Internet Income Opportunity, even parenting. If we want to be successful, we must plan first (first creation), then act (second creation). This process, done correctly, will expand the borders of our Circle of Influence.
We are either the second creation of our own proactive design, or we are the second creation of outside influences. The choice is ours.
Habit 1 says, “You are the creator.” Habit 2 is the first creation.

Proactivity, The Final Pieces
Posted by admin on Jan 7, 2010
Previously, we discussed the Circle of Influence and how it encompasses concerns in our lives that we have control over. This is where we want to concentrate our efforts.
It is very clear that our goal should be to expand our Circle of Influence, thereby having control over more and more of our concerns.
We need to listen to the words we use on a daily basis. There are two key words to listen for: have; and be.
“When I have more time I’ll look for an Internet Income Opportunity.” This means that starting our business is reliant on something other than ourselves, outside our Circle of Influence. This is the language of the reactive person, leaving their future to outside influences.
“I can be more successful in Direct Sales Marketing.” This is the language of someone living within their Circle of Influence, the proactive person. This says that success is ours for the choosing.
As soon as we catch ourselves thinking that the problem is “out there”, this thought is the problem. Remember, if a problem is truly beyond our control, we must change our reactions to those of acceptance as we can do nothing about them anyway.
As human beings, in a free world, we have the freedom to choose our actions, but we are not free to choose the consequences that result from these actions.
We are still free to make these choices, but we must be prepared to accept the consequences of those choices.
Past mistakes are among those things that fall into the Circle of Concern: we can’t take them back, we can’t undo them, and we can’t control the resulting consequences.
We can, however, acknowledge our mistakes (as soon as possible), learn from them, and then move on. This is the proactive approach.
There are two ways to put ourselves in immediate control of our lives. We can make a promise and keep it, or we can set a goal and work to achieve it. This gives us a sense of self-control that encourages us to take more responsibility for our lives.

Proactivity Continued
Posted by admin on Jan 6, 2010
Yesterday, we started to discuss the first of The Seven Habits, be proactive.
Let’s continue where we left off.
Our basic nature is to act, and not to be acted upon. We must recognize that it is our responsibility to make things happen.
The remaining six habits each depend on the development of our proactivity, so this first habit might be considered the most important for laying the framework for growth.
The language we use gives a good indication of how proactive we believe ourselves to be.
Reactive language, like our thoughts, has a tendency to be self-fulfilling. Remember the saying: Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!
Here’s something to ponder: Love is a verb.
Reactive people make it a feeling as they are driven by feelings.
Proactive people make love a verb. Love is something you do: the sacrifices you make, the giving of self. Love is a value that is actualized through loving actions. Proactive people place values above feelings. As such, love (the feeling), can be recaptured.
Circle of Concern / Circle of Influence
We all have many concerns in life, so we need to look at where we focus our time and energy.
We must learn to separate our concerns into two groups: those we have control over, and those we can do nothing about.
The first group, those we have control over, can be place in a “Circle of Influence.”
The second group, those we can do nothing about, can be place in a second “Circle of Concern.”
For most people, the Circle of Influence will be smaller and can be placed within the Circle of Concern.
We must determine which of these two circles we focus most of our time and energy on. We need to analyze our Direct Sales Marketing and Internet Income Opportunity as well; to be sure we expend our efforts on things within our control.
Proactive people focus their efforts in the Circle of Influence where they have some control. This will cause their Circle of Influence to grow.
Reactive people focus their efforts in the Circle of Concern where they have no control. The negative energy produced, combined with neglect in areas where they have control, causes their Circle of Influence to shrink.
Positive change requires that we work within our Circle of Influence, thus empowering ourselves; rather than outside influences robbing us of our power.
The problems we face fall in one of three areas:
1 – Direct control problems are solved by working on our habits.
2 – Indirect control problems are solved by changing our methods of influence.
3 – No control problems involve taking the responsibility to change our reactions. Accept these problems and learn to live with them, even though we don’t like them.
I’m sure you recognize this: Lord, give me the courage to change the things which can and ought to be changed, the serenity to accept the things which cannot be changed, and the wisdom to know the difference. (Alcoholics Anonymous prayer)
Our Circle of Influence is the first step to a solution, for any of these types of control.

Learn To Be Proactive
Posted by admin on Jan 5, 2010
The first of The Seven Habits is to be proactive.
There is much to cover here, so I’ll divide it into sections to share with you over the next few days.
Self-Awareness is the ability to think about our thoughts and the processes we use to make decisions.
We are not our feelings or our moods or our thoughts.
Our self-paradigm affects our attitudes and behaviors and how we see other people.
Are our paradigms reality-based, or principle-based, or are they a function of conditioning and the conditions around us?
If the only vision we have of ourselves comes from exterior influences such as the opinions, perceptions, and paradigms of the people around us, then our view of ourselves will be distorted.
There are three theories of determinism widely accepted, independently or in combination, to explain the nature of man:
- Genetic Determinism (your grandparents)
- Physical Determinism (your parents, your upbringing)
- Environmental Determinism (conditioned to respond in a particular way to particular stimulus)
When something happens in our lives, there is a space between that event and our response to it.
As humans, with self-awareness, imagination, and independent will, we have the freedom to choose how we react. This is what separates us from the animal world.
Proactivity Defined
The first and most basic habit of a highly effective person in any environment is the habit of proactivity.
What this means is that we are responsible for our own lives. Our attitudes and behaviors are a function of our decisions, not our conditions. We are also responsible for our results in an Internet Income Opportunity and Direct Sales Marketing.
Our attitudes and behaviors are a product of conscious choice, based on values, rather than a product of conditions, based on feelings.
The ability to choose to react based on values instead of feelings is the essence of the proactive person.
No one can hurt you without your consent – Eleanor Roosevelt
It’s not what happens to us, but our response to what happens to us that hurts us. Of course, there can be physical or economical hurt, but we are talking about our attitudes and behaviors here.
What matters most is how we respond to what we experience in life.

The Seven Habits – An Overview
Posted by admin on Jan 4, 2010
Our character, who we are, is really a reflection of our habits.
Habits can be good for us, but they can also be harmful. Exercise and healthy diet are excellent habits, but smoking has been proven to be harmful (though some debate if it is a habit or an addiction).
Forming new, good habits can be a lot easier than breaking bad habits. Anyone who has ever tried to break a habit will relate to this.
I love food, all kinds of food! I cannot quit eating as I require food to stay alive, so I must find another way to break my bad habit of eating too much, or eating the wrong foods. Instead of concentrating on stopping my bad habits, I am concentrating on starting new habits to replace the bad habits.
Habits are defined as the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire. All three are required to transform our actions and behaviors into habits. All three are also required to operate a successful Internet Income Opportunity.
As we move through our study of The Seven Habits you will notice that they guide us progressively from dependence to independence to interdependence.
The first three habits deal with self-mastery, moving us toward independence. These are referred to as Personal Victories.
The next three habits set the ground work that will help move us toward interdependence and are referred to as Public Victories.
The last habit is one of renewal and embodies all the other habits.
The Seven Habits are all about effectiveness. The true measure of effectiveness is determined by looking at what we produce, as well as our capacity to produce. For our purpose, the capacity to produce is ourselves as we are the producers of our own lives.
We must be careful to strike a balance between product and producer. In Direct Sales Marketing, I am the producer of my marketing, which in turn brings me customers. If I spend all my time concentrating on myself, my business will suffer. If I concentrate all my efforts on my customers, my marketing will suffer. They are interconnected: without one, I do not have the other.
You are not your habits. Poor habits can be changed, new habits can be formed, and you are still you!
