Talk About Your Own Mistakes

Talk About Your Own Mistakes Before Criticizing The Other Person.
I think it must be human nature that once we know and understand something, we seem to think that others should know and understand as well! How crazy is that?
We’ve spent our lifetime learning, yet we often get frustrated when others don’t get it, even though their experiences are not the same as our own.
Remember back (way back for some of us), when you were younger. Someone, your elder, spoke to you in a manner that assumed you knew something or other. Because they had the experience, they assumed you had it as well.
The fact that they were twice as old with mountains more experience seemed irrelevant. Realistically, how could we be expected to see things from their point of view, use the same judgment, etc.?
Keep this reality in mind when you approach someone about a mistake they have made. Is it reasonable to expect them to have known better?
Talk about mistakes you made in the past, perhaps when you were their age, or in a similar circumstance. This will certainly be relevant while working your Direct Sales Marketing and assisting your team.
Chances are pretty good you made some doozies in your time, so share your past mistakes before criticizing the other person.
After sharing, try adding something like “do you think it would have been better if you had done …?”
It’s much easier to accept a critique from someone who has just admitted that they too have made mistakes, perhaps ones more drastic.
Another great thing to remember: if you make a mistake, even if no one else has spotted it yet, admit it openly. Don’t wait for it to become an issue.
You just might, unintentionally, encourage others to do the same. It’s always easier to correct a situation as soon as possible, while it’s fresh in your mind.
These are traits of a good leader.

Call Attention To People’s Mistakes Indirectly
Posted by admin on Oct 29, 2009
When Charles Schwab came across some of his employees smoking, directly under a “No Smoking” sign, he walked over to the men, handed each one a cigar, and said, “I’ll appreciate it, boys, if you will smoke these on the outside.”
He let them know that he was aware of their actions, let them know that it was not acceptable, but he did it indirectly.
Do you think they got the message? You can be sure they did. They were not, however, embarrassed by being caught doing something they knew not to do.
The purpose of the indirect approach is to get people to change their behavior, while not offending them or causing resentment. This works very well for your Internet Income Opportunity when you want to assist your team and spur them on to greater success.
In a previous discussion we talked about how to begin a conversation that involved correcting unacceptable actions or behaviors – begin with praise and honest appreciation. There is an additional change that can be made: avoid using the word “but”.
For example … Joe, you did a great job with Mr. Smith last week. He was completely satisfied that you had fixed the problem for him, but don’t forget to check your work before presenting to your customer from now on.
The praise and honest appreciation is negated by the critical statement that followed the “but.”
Often people will question the sincerity of the praise, feeling as though it was just a lead-in to the criticism.
This could be easily overcome by changing the word “but” to “and.”
Using the above example … Joe, you did a great job with Mr. Smith last week. He was completely satisfied that you had fixed the problem for him, and you’ll remember to check your work before presenting to your customer from now on.
This is a very simple and effective way to get your point across without the negative inference.

Begin With Praise And Honest Appreciation

Begin With Praise And Honest Appreciation.
This principle works well at home, work, or for your Internet Income Opportunity.
Do you remember the last time you did something wrong and someone had to correct your actions? If it was handled as most people do, they just jumped right in and gave you heck. Perhaps you learned from the reprimand, but you most likely remembered the experience because it made you uncomfortable, embarrassed, and belittled.
Now put yourself in the shoes of the person who must do the correcting. How could it be handled better to avoid the discomfort you felt when you were on the receiving end?
Being a redhead, we are well known for our short temper. I have learned over the years to let an amount of time pass before dealing with problems. This gives me time to cool down, if necessary. This also gives me time to think about the approach I’m going to use when I speak with the person in question.
If necessary, do some research about the person you must speak to. What are their good points? What is their track record?
Now that you are prepared, be sure to speak with the person in private. There is no need for anyone else to overhear the conversation.
Begin by praising their good points, and expressing honest appreciation for their contributions. Then, and only then, should you continue to the issue at hand.
It’s always easier to listen to unpleasant things after we have heard some praise of our good points.
Try this approach, and see how much better the results can be.

Throw Down A Challenge
Posted by admin on Oct 27, 2009
Throw Down A Challenge.
We all have fears. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of success! This last fear can have a devastating effect on your Direct Sales Marketing.
What greater challenge is there than the opportunity to overcome our fears?
Challenge yourself to overcome your fears and make a success of your Internet Income Opportunity.
The first step is to identify your fears. How can you possibly overcome your fear if you have no idea what your real fear is? This is hard-core reality time! Be honest with yourself. Take your time and dig deep, not just the surface stuff.
Now comes the challenge part. Challenge yourself to conquer your fear.
Analyze the fear. Is the fear real or just a form of procrastination? Is the fear a reaction to facing the unknown?
Be methodical. Write down your fear, and then write down what causes the fear. What steps can you take to overcome your fear?
Not only do you want to conquer your fear, you want to excel beyond merely accomplishing the task. You want to do the very best that you can do.
I have found that education on a subject usually calms my fears. This tells me that my fears were merely of the unknown. Once I have more knowledge, the fear disappears.
We touched on the principle of importance awhile back. Conquering your fears, learning new skills, excelling in the task at hand, these things will give a feeling of importance that you have created for yourself.

Dramatize Your Ideas
Posted by admin on Oct 26, 2009
Dramatize Your Ideas.
You see it everywhere. Just watch your TV for an evening, and you’ll see what I mean.
Real life crime shows do dramatizations to show you the crime. This gives them the ability to show the circumstances from more than one point of view.
Commercials do dramatizations to show you the benefits of their products and how their products are better than the competitor’s.
They can tell you a story, but you understand better and remember more of what they are saying with dramatization. You now have a picture to go with the words. This is much more powerful than words alone.
I am using this principle with this video series I’m doing for my Internet Income Opportunity. You get to see me, get to know me a bit, and you probably remember my message better than you would have done with this blog entry alone.
Use your imagination and you’ll think of dozens of ways to use this principle for your Direct Sales Marketing.

Appeal To Their Nobler Motives
Posted by admin on Oct 23, 2009
Welcome back! Let’s continue the discussion relating to my reading of How to Win Friends & Influence People, by Dale Carnegie.
The next principle is – Appeal to the nobler motives.
People usually have two reasons for doing something: one that sounds good and a real one.
Because people believe they are unselfish by their own standards, try appealing to the unselfish side of people, their nobler motives.
This principle fits in very well with the current trend in Direct Sales Marketing: give before you expect to receive.
Help others to help themselves.
Provide potential prospects with free, valuable information before discussing your Online Marketing Business Opportunity.
I’m a perpetual student, so I find this approach brilliant! Every day I learn new things that I can use in my money making home business, while researching topics to share with potential customers. So, while I’m educating my readers, I’m educating myself!
That’s a win-win in my books.

Be Sympathetic To Other’s Ideas And Desires
Posted by admin on Oct 22, 2009
Welcome back! Let’s continue the discussion relating to my reading of How to Win Friends & Influence People, by Dale Carnegie.
The next principle is – Be sympathetic with the other person’s ideas and desires.
The next time you are really agitated about something: sit down, write a scathing letter, and lock it away somewhere for two days. In two days, take out the letter and read it. Chances are pretty good that you will no longer have the desire to mail it.
Why is that?
You’ve likely had time to cool down, and the issue is not as upsetting as it was when you wrote the letter. You’ve had time to think about the situation from the other person’s point of view, and perhaps you are more sympathetic to their circumstances.
If you sympathize with someone’s point of view, they will likely sympathize with yours. You will have the satisfaction of controlling your temper and treating the other person with kindness and respect.
Here’s a great way to eliminate bad feelings, create goodwill and make people listen to you. Say something along the lines of: “I don’t blame you one bit for feeling what you do. If I were you I would probably feel the same way.” This can go a long way when speaking to your Direct Sales Marketing prospects.
Give it a try, and see the reaction you get.

See Things From Their Point Of View
Posted by admin on Oct 21, 2009
Welcome back! Let’s continue the discussion relating to my reading of How to Win Friends & Influence People, by Dale Carnegie.
The next principle is – Try honestly to see things from the other person’s point of view.
The person you are talking to may be totally wrong, at least as far as you’re concerned. But remember, they don’t think so. Try to understand them and see things from their point of view.
There is a reason why they think and act as they do. If you can figure out that reason, you have the key to their actions, perhaps to their personality.
Try honestly to put yourself in their place – walk a mile in their shoes. How do things look now? Seeing things through another person’s eyes can ease tensions and help to avoid possible misunderstanding.
Try to make their ideas and feelings as important as your own. We all want that respect from others. Accepting their viewpoint will encourage the listener to have an open mind to your ideas, and your Online Marketing Business Opportunity.
The saying is “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I’d like to expand on that – say unto others as you would have them say unto you. Think about how you would like to receive the information you are trying to impart to someone. What type of presentation would inspire you to be interested in Direct Sales Marketing?
Make every effort to think in terms of the other person’s point of view, and see things from that person’s angle as well as your own.
I’ve tried to apply my knowledge and understanding of these ideas in the operation of my Internet Income Opportunity.

Let Them Think The Idea Was Theirs
Posted by admin on Oct 20, 2009
Welcome back! Let’s continue the discussion relating to my reading of How to Win Friends & Influence People, by Dale Carnegie.
The next principle is – Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers.
I have found that I have more faith in ideas that I discovered for myself, rather than those inflicted on me by someone else.
How about you?
I prefer someone to make suggestions then let me come to my own conclusions. This is how I found my Direct Sales Marketing business. I got the facts, weighed the facts, and decided that this was the right opportunity for me.
Try to consult with people about their wishes and desires. Learn what makes them tick. Learn why they are interested in an Online Marketing Business Opportunity. Make suggestions that get them interested, get them thinking about it on their own.
No one likes to feel that they are being sold something or told to do a something. They prefer to feel that they are buying because of their own decisions, acting on their own ideas.
This principle works in business and politics as well as your family life.
Once someone has made the idea their own, let them keep it as their own. Never correct them by saying that the idea was actually yours and not theirs. You should never care about the credit, just the results. Give public credit to the other person if they desire it.
Don’t spend your time trying to sell someone, let them sell themselves.
I’ve tried to apply my knowledge and understanding of these ideas in the operation of my Internet Income Opportunity.

Let The Other Person Do The Talking
Posted by admin on Oct 19, 2009
Let the other person do a great deal of the talking.
When trying to win someone to your way of thinking, who does the majority of the talking? If you’re like most people, it’s probably you.
Next time you have a prospect on the phone for your Direct Sales Marketing, try using this principle, and let the other person do most of the talking.
Ask them questions; let them tell you what’s on their mind.
You will be tempted to interrupt if you disagree with what they are saying. Don’t. Encourage them to express their ideas fully before responding.
As a parent this can be very difficult to do. You see your child making mistakes and you want to save them from themselves, save them from making the same mistakes you made at their age, so you continue to give advice. This cannot be helped, but make sure that you are listening to your child when they speak to you. You may find that they have important information to share with you if you give them the chance.
It’s not difficult to get people to talk. Most people like to talk about themselves and their experiences. Simply ask a few questions to get them started.
Once you have provided all the information needed to make an informed decision about your Online Marketing Business Opportunity, let the other person make the decision on their own. Most people will weigh the information fairly in their mind and come to the conclusion that is right for them.
